The two projects I decided to revise were writing project one and writing project two. I revised these because I knew there was more information that was possible to be added to make it more interesting to read without the reader getting bored. I added hyperlinks to books and newspapers, pictures, and pull-out quotes for the reader to be able to look at while they were reading each project. Even though I revised my page as a whole, I had to look back in project one and two being that those were my two favorite from all we did regarding Wix. During my shadow with my manager at St. Vincent, I learned to discover, explore, and analyze what it’s like to be a top tier worker and be able to see how a patient transportation worker does their work from a manager’s point of view. I was taught to see how they are tracked from iPods to tag their locations in the hospital, track what times they picked up a job, and what time they ended the job. I selected this as my course immersion experience because ever since I started a job at st. Vincent, I always wanted to know how my supervisors always knew where to find us and how they were tracking us throughout the hospital.
To prepare, I did research by reading about what transportation is, watching videos on YouTube and videos I found throughout google about the in depth areas of patient transportation, and talking with my supervisor to enlighten me even more on the point of patient transportation. The research helped me prepare by giving me extra information that was really helpful on how I got as far as I did. After my experience attending St. Vincent, I reflected back on the experience as if I wanted to be a manager one day. Everything I learned, I stored in my memory box because it was a great experience. the information I learned, the problems I came across, and just the whole experience was memorable. I took photos for remembrance, and I even made notes on key points of my journey. This helped me focus on certain points when I started my feature style narrative. These notes gave me a way to add on to my writing. I did more research on the history of patient transportation. I show ownership by focusing on this to help educate the reader about how long transportation has been a thing, and how changed over time. As I strategically revised my immersion experience narrative; I opened with a question. The question was to get the reader to think. I wanted them to keep reading to get the answer to the question. This was the best option for me because I feel like starting with a question makes the reader eager to know what’s next and how that question got answered. The set pieces I added in my writing helped and enriched the writing because it gave the reader a small break from my writing and informed a little about patient transportation in other locations. I used a google book and a New York Times article.
During my peer review, I was able to get feedback on what I needed to fix and revise to make better so that my projects can be even more interesting. Every piece of feedback I got, I took it into consideration because I know that it’s great advice and it could boost my thoughts and have greater things to add. Some readings we had in class helped me bring project one and two together. For project two, my whole reasoning of starting my project with trouble was because of the readings we read in class. Also, Pratt’s reading helped me figure out what contact zones were and in certain ways, I was able to incorporate that into my writing. One course concept was to be able to discover, explore, and analyze ideas in order to write with a strong sense of ownership. I did just that by figuring out what I wanted to write for my immersion experience. I was able to explore and analyze certain things on databases regarding my immersion experience and I got to include that information into what I already knew and my journey of figuring things out.
Another concept was to participate productively in discussions about writing. As a peer review, I was able to discuss with a peer about our writings and ways we could change certain things to make it better. It is very important to get feedback from others about your writing to see their perspective of it. It makes one a better writer. Another was to create a clear focus or strong thesis and provide sufficient support. In writings, it is essential to have a strong thesis. A thesis statement is what molds your whole writing. Without that, you have no paper. So therefore, it is important to make sure your key points are worth giving valuable information about. Moreover, using sources effectively by synthesizing ideas, integrating them smoothly, and documenting them correctly using MLA is important. if you don’t cite the things you are putting in your writing, it could put you in a drought being that the whole paper would be considered plagiarism. If you get information from another person or website, you should cite it being that you did not come up with it. So giving that person or website ownership for their information is the correct way to do it. Lastly, learn to reflect on your writing practices to improve them. As a strong writer, it is important to look back at your writing and be able to find ways to make it better. nobody’s writing is 100% perfect. There is always something to revise to make it better. I learned that as I worked through each project. I realized that there is always something I can fix. That is what made me a better writer today.
